Lemon: History, Curiosity, Therapeutic virtue

Lemon plant  (Citrus limonum)  is native of  China, imported in the Mediterranean area  around 13th century by the Arabs. For more  centuries it was the plant with the most extensive use in many areas, especially the therapeutic area, highly regarded and appreciated since the most ancient civilizations.
The lemon juice has metabolism properties balancing;  it’s known to be refreshing and tonic, diuretic, digestive, antiseptic and astringent. It’s rich in  C, B and A vitamins groups, minerals, citric acid and malic acid. Of course we can’t forget many uses of his essential oil.
The lemon juice, in addition to refreshing properties, has recognized powers of disinfectant, astringent, healing, and slimming. It’s often used as a bactericide and effective remedy for nausea, gout, chronic rheumatism, diabetes, dysentery, fever, headache.
The cosmetic applications of  lemon are very numerous; when applied on the skin, the juice promotes healing and disinfection;
relaxes and tonific dry skin; asphyxiated, acne and impure skin; plays as astringent when applied to oily skin: purifying excess sebum.
For the mouth, turns out to be a blessing for its disinfectant and healing actions in small mucosal lesions;

Here are a few preparations with lemon and diseases which can be cured.

Depurative mixture care:

  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice (Citrus limonum),
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (Acer Saccharum),
  • 1 pinch powder chili pepper (Capsicum),
  • 250 ml warm or cold water.

Mix the ingredients and finally, add the water, drink the mixture in two times: one cup in the morning and one in the afternoon, for 10 days.


  • lemon essential oil (Citrus limonum),
  • 1 sugar cube.

Put 2 drops of lemon essence on the sugar cube and melt it in your mouth, repeat 2 or 3 times per day.


  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (Citrus limonum).

Take the juice all at once.

Pediculosis (lice):

  • lemon essential oil (Citrus limonum),
  • lavender essential oil (Lavandula officinalis),
  • rosemary essential oil (Rosmarinus officinalis),
  • thime essential oil (Thymus vulgaris),
  • 100 ml of alcohol 60°,
  • 1 sterilized small and dark glass bottle.

Put the alcohol in the bottle and add 10 drops of listed each essence; put a few drops of liquid  on the scalp affected by lice and  massage it gently.
Add also a few drops of the liquid into the water bath.


  • lemon essential oil (Citrus limonum),
  • 1 teaspoon of honey.

Put 3 drops of  lemon essential oil  in the teaspoon of honey and take it 2 times per day.

Mouth (mucosal lesions of the mouth):

  • 1 teaspoon of mauve (Malva sylvestris),
  • 1 teaspoon of sage (Salvia officinalis),
  • 1 teaspoon of honey,
  • 1 lemon (Citrus limonum) juice,
  • 200 ml of water.

Put the mauve and sage in the water and boil for 5 minutes; let cool the decoction, filtred and add honey and lemon juice; rinse your mouth with this liquid mixture, 2 times per day.


  • 2 lemons (Citrus limonum),
  • 1 liter of water.

Cut the lemons into small pieces after being washed and brushed, put them in water and boil for 6-7 minutes, filtred the decoction and drink cups of it during the day.


  • 50 grams of lemon peels (Citrus limonum),
  • 100 ml of alcohol 80°.

Let macerate lemon peels in alcohol for 10 days; when the time is over, filter it. Take a teaspoon of macerated 3 times per day;  if desired, can diluted it in a cup of water.

Poisoning by alkaline substances:

  • 50 ml of lemon juice (Citrus limonum).

Take the juice in small sips, it will cause vomiting or neutral reaction.


  • 150 ml lemon juice (Citrus limonum).

Drink lemon juice during the day, 3 days per week.

Uric acid:

  • 3 medium-sized lemons (Citrus limonum) juice
  • 1 cup water.

Add lemon juice and water, drink it hot or cold, in the morning on empty stomach. Take the cure for 10 days, with suspension of 10 days. Repeated for 3 times, even more times during the year.

Thrombosis – embolism:

  • 25 drops of small branches of lemon (Citrus limonum) glicerine macerate,
  • 25 drops of dogwood glycerine macerate (Cormus sanguinea),
  • 1 cup water.

Put the drops in water and drink this mixture 2 times per day, in the morning and evening, for 1 week. Repeated every month.


  • 1 lemon (Citrus limonum) juice,
  • 10 ml of olive oil,
  • cotton wad.

Mix the ingredients vigorously, dab wrinkles repeatedly with cotton wad. Clean with tiepid water.

Oily skin:
dab the skin repeatedly with fresh lemon juice.

Detergent – Cleansing the face.

  • 50 ml lemon juice (Citrus limonum)
  • 50 ml cologne,
  • 50 grams glycerin.

Mix the ingredients and put a little of this emulsion on a cotton wad, dab the skin to remove makeup or for cleaning.

Teeth Whitening:
use lemon juice to brush, 1 time per week.
